( she's quiet until she finishes the other half of Faith's head, holding it tight and brushing her fingers against Faith's knuckles, a wordless request for the other half. she'll fluff them out once everything is braided together.
she only responds once the first couple of twists are done. )
Me either.
( it is, after all, part of the reason she said she never wanted to go back down, never wanted to fight on the front lines. ask her to go to balls, to dance and gather information, to provide enchantments or advice or anything else, but once Rosenberg was defeated, don't make her fight unless she had to. unless she was sparring for fun or there was no other option. )
... S'pose it could be worse. ( it's conceded after a few more seconds of work on Faith's hair, quiet as anything. Faith's right. they have light and water and food and all the things - more or less - one would expect above ground. it's not the claustrophobic, dangerous darkness of their undergrounds.
[As Kate works on her hair in silence, Faith lowers her hand and stares at the fire in it, burning like it's fueled by wood. It's the very thing that got her where she is, let her do so much good and cause so much collateral damage. It's almost refreshing to not be in control here. To react, to help. More often, it's been uncomfortable and frustrating.
But Kate is right. It could be worse. Their undergrounds are dank and dirty and cramped, full of dead things in the walls, and living things too. It's too easy to feel like you're walking into your own grave, where at least here, you can't really see the cave ceiling, and the city sprawls out far and wide.]
Looks great. ( it'll look perfect once she teases it out a bit more, but Faith's hair slips into place well, has a good sheen to it. her fingers thread and loop the strands over themselves until a braid tumbles down Faith's back, is tied up, and Kate starts picking at bits of hair to fluff out the plaits. )
Making new friends? ( there are good things to this place - great things, in fact - and if Kate knows Faith, she probably has a few people she's already fond of. )
[She'll take Kate's word for it. It certainly feels complex. Faith will try to keep it looking this way for as long as possible.]
Mm, yeh. There's this woman, Wanda -- doesn't talk much, but I like 'er. An' the one who claimed the lali ho mag seems like a nice one! Sir Henry's a good one too. [She pauses, tilting her head slightly to one side.] Come to think of it, I haven't met anyone yet I don't like!
( she doesn't get to do this enough, doesn't take the time to do it to herself. having Faith to practice on-
it's nice. relaxing, in its own way. )
Is he a lali ho? ( she can't resist asking that, having met and agreed with both of Faith's other statements. Wanda seemed nice enough when they talked and Henry is a good person. )
[Faith laughs. Yes, long live lali ho, what a good term.]
Don't know! Didn't talk to him enough to find out. But we did talk about where we're both from. His world's got dragons and these monsters called eidolons. He says those are summons. Now that I'd love to see.
Couldn't have got some of them. ( no, of course not. they might be helpful in getting them out. it isn't that strange, if you think about it. not when the so called clear-cut lines between good and evil were never so clear cut at home.
but enough of that. have a mirror, Faith. ) Here. Have a look. ( she even brought a second to do that whole 'hairdresser showing you the back of your head' thing. )
[Nah, their luck's not that good, based on how it is back home. But Faith's never solely relied on luck No, you've got to make your own way with all that's available to you.
She takes the mirror Kate offers her and turns her head to look at the braids, then angles it with Kate's mirror to look at the back. From the moment she first lays eyes on the braids, Faith's smile goes brighter than the underground sunrise.]
Nothing. ( it's been nice to get a chance to do something like this, something so normal. it's been a long time, even before coming down here. ) Don't go ruining it in th' caves or owt. ( :P )
[With almost childish glee, Faith moves behind Kate and starts to work on a simple braid, but not before combing her fingers through the hair. Pink, soft, so pretty.]
If I'd met you when I was little, I'd 'ave wondered if your hair tastes like candy floss.

so she might not be saying the L-word, ever. (or at least not anytime soon).
Kate exhales as Faith talks, talks sense. of course she does, always managing to find the positives in a situation. it's needed. )
Hold this. ( she pinches the braid at where it currently ends, still on Faith's head, shifting her weight behind her. ) Could do with better lighting.
( the sunrises here suck, even if she does still watch them near-religiously. )

She holds the braid in place as Kate instructs, then lifts her free hand to create a small, controlled fireball.]
Better?
no subject
Not what I meant.
( the sunlight here is too constant, too artificial to feel right to her. )
It isn't th' same as watching them back home. ( the sunrises. )
no subject
'Cos there's no sun. [Faith is quiet a moment, and a second or two later, she shivers.] Don't like bein' underground.

Yeh.
[But she's not going to let them dwell on it.]
How's it look? Can't wait to see it.

I love it! [Then, more quietly,] Thanks, bestie.

Prob'ly should find some hairspray or summat. ( meanwhile, Kate is just gonna put hers up in a bun again. how boring. help her, Faith. )
no subject
[In the mirror, she sees Kate twist her hair into a bun. Tilting the mirror so she can look straight at Kate, Faith pouts.]
Not gonna do somethin' nice for yourself?
no subject
( look at all that hair Faith you know you want to play with it. )

Eee. 'M not as good at plaits as you, but I can do better than a bun.

[Faith laughs, tugging gently on Kate's hair as she starts on the braid. One long one down her back, pink and pretty.]
Pink's good on you, I like it. Plus it looks nice next to mine in pictures.
